Australian Lyrebird

Outstanding and rare Australian lyrebird performance in the Blue Mountains. I recorded this footage when trail running just before sunrise near Jenolan Caves.

Lyrebirds have the unique ability to perfectly imitate the songs of other birds as well as human sounds, including mobile phones or camera shutters. How many different bird songs can you identify?

  1. Thank you for sharing that. I recently listened to a lyrebird giving a wonderful concert at the Visitors’ Centre at Fitzroy Falls in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Visitors were just walking past this wonderful bird metres from them.. Eventually my curiosity got the better of me and I asked several people why they did not stop and listen and each person said they thought it was a CD playing! We need to train people to Stop, Look and Listen!.
